Here are some of the great music celebrations worth listening to:

  • West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival (June 20-22): In only five years, this outdoor music festival has grown from a small neighborhood celebration to a massive jazz festival. Thousands of music lovers from around the world will gather to celebrate music, art, food and fun, with headliner performances from renowned artists like The O’Jays, WAR, The Whispers and The Benny Golson Quartet. The festival will feature more than 50 live music performances from artists all over the region, including Philly’s own Kevin Eubanks and Pieces of a Dream. All performances on outdoor stages are free. 7100-7400 blocks of Ogontz Avenue, www.westoaklanefestival.com
  • Summer Concert Series at Penn’s Landing (every Friday night, June 27 through Labor Day): The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing is home to free outdoor concerts all summer long. • Bank of America Sounds of R&B Series (Friday nights, June 27, July 11, July 18 and July 25): Philadelphia is the home base of many major contemporary R&B artists. The Sounds of R&B series features well known and critically acclaimed national recording artists who are either from Philadelphia or have worked with Philadelphia-based music producers and artists, including Lalah Hathaway and Philly native Kevin Michael. Each Friday in July (except July 4) will feature a different performer.
