Philly Hotels Offer Free Hotel Parking For Barack Obama's Inaguration On January 20, 2009

Washington, DC’s Just Two Hours From Philly By Train And Three Hours By Car

Those interested in seeing President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration in Washington, DC on January 20, 2009 will be hard pressed to find a hotel room in the nation’s capital, but hotel availability is currently plentiful in Philadelphia—just two hours from DC by train and three hours by car or bus—and the affordable Philly Overnight® Hotel Package includes many irresistible perks such as free hotel parking.

Where To Stay:
Visitors can take their pick from the more than 30 hotels in the city and region offering the popular Philly Overnight® Hotel Package, a two-night offer that comes with free hotel parking (up to a $75 value), a Philly’s More Fun™ teddy bear and a Macy’s Savings Pass. This and other packages are bookable at gophila.com/president.

Buses, Trains & Automobiles:
With inauguration day nearing, seats on Amtrak and Greyhound are going quickly, but reservations are still available—especially for those with flexible travel times. On Amtrak, several Acela trains still have openings, and they’ll get travelers from Philly to DC in a speedy hour-and-a-half. amtrak.com. Seats on Greyhound are cheaper but tougher to find. (800) 231-2222, greyhound.com. And, of course, another option is to make the three-hour drive from Philly to DC.

What To Do In Philly:
Those spending time in Philly before or after the inauguration will find plenty to do. The most obvious choice for political junkies: a trip to the National Constitution Center, where they can explore the Constitution through high-tech exhibitions, artifacts and displays and even take the Oath of Office themselves. Also worth some time is the America I AM exhibition, making its world debut at the Constitution Center on January 15, 2009. The show celebrates the contributions of Africans and African-Americans over nearly 500 years through narration, music, art, video and artifacts, including the “Doors of No Return” that led captive Africans to the Americas and the bench where Martin Luther King, Jr. penned his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.”

And while in Historic Philadelphia, visitors can discover more about the area where our nation was formed. Attractions are open and free to visitors year round, but the lines are shorter during the cooler months, making winter the optimum time to explore legendary sites like the Liberty Bell, which was installed as a symbol of William Penn’s original constitution and civic legacy; and Independence Hall, the birthplace of the United States and its Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
