25th Annual Feria Del Barrio
The annual Feria del Barrio is one of Philadelphia’s largest celebrations of Latino music and culture, bringing together thousands of residents to celebrate 25 years of arts, education and community. Headed To The White House
In honor of this election year, the National Constitution Center is giving visitors a close-up look at the presidential process. Triple The Fright For Halloween 2008
Actress Elvira knows that Philly is the place to be this Halloween. That’s why she’ll be in town for a special celebration. In keeping with the spooky spirit, fans of Edgar Allan Poe can mark the bicentennial of the literary genius’ birthday (January 19, 1809) by visiting his one-time home, the Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site. New $88 Million Children’s Museum
Starting October 18, 2008, taking kids to the Please Touch Museum will be a completely new experience when the museum opens its new home in Fairmount Park. Located in Memorial Hall—a National Historic Landmark built in 1876 for the Centennial Exhibition—it will boast three times more space for exhibitions and programs. After the first year’s success, organizers and participants ordered a double. Two Exclusive Exhibitions In Philadelphia Explore The Stars And Beyond
Museum fans are giddy with delight over the arrival of two major exhibitions making their exclusive appearances in Philadelphia. Cézanne and Beyond will be on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from February 26 through May 17, 2009, and Galileo, the Medici and the Age of Astronomy will be on display at The Franklin from April 4 through September 7, 2009. During the nearly two-month period when the exhibits are running simultaneously, visitors will have a chance to see both shows at museums that are just blocks away from one another on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. New Interactive Exhibition At The African American Museum
The African American Museum in Philadelphia’s new core exhibition, The Early History of African Americans in Philadelphia, will debut on Juneteenth (June 19) 2009. 2010:
Coming Soon In Historic Philadelphia
On July 4, 2010, the National Museum of American Jewish History will open a new five-story, 100,000-square-foot building that will serve as a vital center of preserving, exploring and celebrating the history of Jewish people in America. And in fall of that year, within close view of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center, the President’s House Commemorative Site will mark the location of the nation’s former Executive Mansion and honor the people who lived and worked there, among them at least nine enslaved people of African descent held by President George Washington from 1790 to 1797.
