Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. Partners With American Legacy Magazine's Mobile Exhibit To Drive Up Tourism
Traveling Museum Will Visit 12 U.S. Cities During Black History Month
To keep attracting more tourists to the region, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) is teaming up with American Legacy magazine for their "Know Your History" mobile tour during Black History Month. The exhibition will travel to 12 U.S. cities throughout the month of February and is expected to draw 32,000 visitors. GPTMC is partnering with American Legacy to raise the city’s national profile as a place where visitors can connect with their history, culture and much more.
Philadelphia is the only featured destination on the tour. Stops are scheduled for Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta, Washington, DC and New York City. The mobile museum will be stationed in Philadelphia on February 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Universal Companies’ 777 South Broad Street lot.
American Legacy magazine, which is distributed nationwide to more than two million readers at black churches and educational and cultural institutions, has transformed an 18-wheel tractor trailer into a mobile black history museum. Once inside, visitors can interact with exhibitions that highlight the depth and magnitude of African-American history and culture through a photo gallery, a genealogy kiosk and games with giveaways for those who know their history.
The vehicle will feature the slogan touting Philadelphia as the place that loves you back®, and visitors to the museum will receive information inviting them to travel to Philly to take part in some of the city’s most unique offerings, including historic sites along the Quest for Freedom trail, the upcoming African Presence in Mexico exhibitionat The African American Museum in Philadelphia and contemporary cultural events like the Black Lily Film & Music Festival and the Odunde African American Festival.
The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) makes Philadelphia and The Countryside® a premier destination through marketing and image building that increases business and promotes the region’s vitality.
