GPTMC Teams Up With Southwest Airlines, R Family Vacations And The Dinah Weekend To Promote Gay Travel To Philly

Long-standing And Innovative Partnerships Help Get The Word Out About Gay-friendly Philly

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) is proud to announce the renewal of three partnerships to support its groundbreaking gay and lesbian marketing campaign, Philadelphia – Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay®. Southwest Airlines has teamed up with GPTMC for the second year, while R Family Vacations and Mariah Hanson’s The Dinah Weekend are working with GPTMC for the third year. All three partnerships employ innovative and collaborative marketing programs, including cross-promotional advertising, e-mail outreach, social media and targeted public relations. Here’s a look at how GPTMC is working to get the gay-friendly Philly message out:

  • Southwest Airlines: The 2009 partnership with Southwest, the official airline of the Philadelphia – Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay® campaign, includes advertising, communications and direct-to-consumer promotions online and in key markets such as Chicago, Denver, Columbus, Fort Lauderdale. In addition, GPTMC and Southwest make significant marketing contributions to GLBT non-profit and community-based organizations in Philadelphia.
  • R Family Vacations: A travel company that creates vacations for GLBT families, R Family will run GPTMC’s gay-friendly television commercial, give away two trips to the city and provide 1,000 Philadelphia turndown items to guests on board the ship during the week of July 11, 2009. Prior to the cruise, R Family will feature Philadelphia in two e-mail blasts going out to 60,000 people.
  • The Dinah Weekend: At Mariah Hanson’s Palm Springs-based lesbian weekend event, attracting nearly 15,000 women every April, GPTMC promoted the gay-friendly Philadelphia message with banners, logo placements and trip giveaways.

In 2003, GPTMC launched the award-winning tourism campaign, Philadelphia – Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay®. The campaign is recognized as a trendsetter for producing and airing the world’s first television commercial by a destination to court the gay traveler; pioneering gay travel research with Community Marketing and the Travel Industry of America; and launching the most comprehensive gay marketing program in the U.S. In 2008, Community Marketing’s 13th annual LGBT Tourism Study of 4,500 gay and lesbian travelers ranked Philadelphia 13 on its list of most visited U.S. destinations for gay and lesbian travelers.
