Five National Magazines And One Web Site Say Philly Is "Great," "Best" And "Tops"

City Shines In September/October 2008

Journalists are taking notice of Philadelphia as a hot urban destination, as evidenced by the many accolades bestowed on the city in September and October 2008. Here’s a look at what some national magazines and a Web site had to say:

  • Business Facilities chose Philadelphia as one of seven destinations for its “Editors’ Location Picks 2008” list featured in the September issue of the publication. Editors were particularly impressed that the region “has a ‘CEO Council for Growth’ that was so determined to create a high-powered entity to market the region it raised $16 million four years ago to establish a business marketing organization called Select Greater Philadelphia, whose job is to be a single source of regional information.”
  • Wine Spectator magazine featured Di Bruno Bros. and Chestnut Hill Cheese Shop in its September article entitled “The World of Cheese: 100 Great Cheeses.”
  • SustainLane.com ranked Philadelphia eighth on its “2008 U.S. City Rankings” list, which appeared on the Web site on September 22, 2008. The listing is the nation’s most complete report card on the urban sustainability of the nation’s 50 largest cities.
  • Simply the Best named The Rittenhouse Hotel one of the “Best Hotels in the World 2008.” The September/October issue roundup described the hotel as “a 98-room urban oasis off the city’s pristine Rittenhouse Square.”
  • Imbibe magazine picked four Philly spots for its September/October article showcasing the “100 Best Places to Drink Beer in America.” Tria, Eulogy Belgian Tavern, Monk’s Café and Standard Tap all made the cut.
  • Bon Appetit listed Tria in its “The Hot 10: Raising the Wine Bar” list. Featured in the October issue of the magazine, the article features wine bars with “eclectic lists, first-rate food, and owners who want to please.”
